Social Media Tactics That Just Make Sense (Even If They Aren’t Data-Backed)
Data is important, but it’s not the only source of truth about what’s working with your social media.
Not everything is measurable, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t work.
If you peeked inside our client Slack, you’d find a whole lot of ‘just trust me’ moments. These are moves that aren’t in the strategy doc, but absolutely help clients win.
In this blog, we’ll share behind-the-scenes social media tactics that fall outside of the analytics box but still make a major impact.
Content Engagement Hacks We Swear By
We’ve found that these Instagram engagement strategies consistently cut through the noise, driving meaningful interaction and fostering a community that actually cares, not just scrolls.
As soon as we post for a client we:
Like + comment on the post from our own account… then respond as the client
This supports account growth because it signals to the audience, “Hey! I’m active on this account!” This not only builds trust and a sense of community but also encourages higher engagement. 🙌
IG Algorithm Win: comment engagement (both outbound and inbound) is important when it comes to a post’s ranking.
Share the post to other accounts for visibility
Sharing posts via DMs to relevant accounts (relevant being the keyword here) can get you in front of more of the right people.
More of the right eyes on your content = greater likelihood of social media conversions.
IG Algorithm Win: likelihood of a post to be shared is important when it comes to a post’s ranking.
Pin a comment from the client for Higher Conversions and/or Engagement
More and more people skip the caption and head straight to the comments; tell them what they need to know in that pinned comment.
Examples could include reminding of a DM Automation trigger word, asking for a follow, or even a mini-repeat of the caption that they probably missed!
IG Algorithm Win: leaving a comment yourself + encouraging others to take action will lead to higher post ranking.
Beyond-the-Scope Magic That Makes Clients $$$
These aren’t part of our official scope… but we’ll never stop doing them. We only want what’s best for our clients, and these tactics are it.
Group DMs where we send posts that our clients should share to their stories.
As social media managers, we’re tuned into socials. . . a lot. This means we’re constantly seeing and forwarding relevant content from other creators that our clients can share.
Not a kpi metric, but this helps their audience feel seen (with this relatably content they reshare) and makes being active in IG stories easy for our clients.
Recommend and test ManyChat trigger words.
Even if we don’t manage our client’s DM Automations, we audit all flows that we’ll be using in their social media.
Including things like offering feedback/options for trigger words and actually going through each flow to look for opportunities to optimize and test the user experience.
Comment with the trigger word to “get the ball rolling” on automation.
Sometimes, the audience needs a little nudge to take action. If they see that other people are commenting with the trigger word to get ‘the thing’, they’ll jump a little bit quicker to do it themselves.
This might be a FOMO-driven ManyChat automation tip, but it works.
Strategy isn’t always linear.
Strategy is more than scheduling posts – it’s building real connections.
Remember, social media strategy is always evolving. It takes a lot of test-and-tweak to figure out what truly works.
Not everything has a metric, but everything we do has a purpose.
If we see a tactic that just makes sense, we’re going to try it. And with 15+ years managing and strategizing socials combined, our intuition is right more often than not.
Ultimately, if a tactic works, it gets a spot inside of the ‘things we do that are not data-backed’ handbook aka our SGS Media Co best practices.
So, there you have it – a glimpse into the ‘trust me’ moments that happen between our Social Media Managers and our clients that make a real difference in their social media strategy.
If you’re tired of surface-level strategy and want the kind of support that digs deeper, goes beyond the basics, and creates real, tangible results, SGS Media Co is here to help.
